HEAD COACH JOHN MULCAHEY

Coach John brings a strong background in lacrosse and a deep-rooted history with Warrior Lacrosse. He was present at the program’s first organizational meeting and quickly became an integral part of the team, rising to the role of "water dad" and assistant statistician by the end of the inaugural season. By the program’s second year, he had stepped into coaching and eventually became head coach, helping lead the team to a second-place finish in the state.

After his two daughters graduated, Coach John transitioned to coaching youth lacrosse for Waunakee Girls Lacrosse before stepping away in 2018. He returned last year as an assistant coach and takes over as head coach for the 2025 season.

A lifelong athlete, Coach John has coached five different youth sports, was a two-sport athlete in college, and competed in four sports during high school. He firmly believes in the positive impact sports have on the development of young people and is excited to lead the program moving forward.

ASSISTANT COACH SAM HURD

Coach Sam is excited to be entering her 14th year with the Waunakee Girls Lacrosse program. She began coaching at the high school in 2011 and was able to help guide the team to the program's first State Championship appearance where the team placed 2nd in the state. After coaching at the high school she moved to working with 3-8th grade girls and led the 14U team to three undefeated seasons.  She also coached the Badgerland Conference All Star game from 2021-2024.

In her college days, she was a four year starter at Virginia Tech. Coach Sam served as team captain for 3 years and was able to experience playing at the highest level of the game.
Virginia Tech Honors include: Rookie of the Year, First Team All Conference in the Big East, Second Team All American-IWLCA South Region. She was also named to Virginia Tech’s “Top 20” players in program history in 2021.

Her high school honors include playing in the US Lacrosse All Star Game and receiving the Marine Corps Scholar Athlete award.

ASSISTANT COACH SARA ROSE

Coach Sara has a strong lacrosse background, having played both in high school and college. She began her lacrosse career at Mukwonago High School, where she played from 2010 to 2014. She then continued her passion for the game at the University of Dubuque, where she played for five years (2014-2019). During her time at Dubuque, she was named team captain in 2019 and earned the Offensive Player of the Year award that same year, showcasing her leadership and skill on the field.

Coach Sara has significant coaching experience, beginning with her time at Mukwonago High School, where she served as the Head Coach from August 2019 to June 2022. Coach Sara has also been an Assistant Coach at Verona High school (23/24 season). Additionally, she has worked with Pirates Lacrosse Club since September 2022, where she has taken on various coaching roles. She started as the 14U Head Coach for the fall of 2022 and later became the JV 25/26 Head Coach during the spring of 2023. She also served as the Head Coach for the summer program in 2023. Coach Sara spent this last summer season with Laxergirl where she served as the JV Blue Head Coach.

Educationally, Coach Sara earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Dubuque in 2019. She went on to earn her Master of Science in Social Work at Walden University.

Professionally, Coach Sara works as a Psychotherapist in the Madison Area.

Coach Sara looks forward to bringing her lacrosse knowledge back to Waunakee to support the growth of this fantastic program!!

ASSISTANT COACH LEXI KALTENBERG

Coach Lexi Kaltenberg brings a wealth of experience to the Waunakee High School lacrosse program. With 11 years of playing experience, Lexi excelled at Waunakee High School, helping her team win back-to-back conference championships in her junior and senior years.

She went on to play at the collegiate level at Carroll University and transitioned from defense to attack. During her time there, her team won a conference championship and made it to the NCAA tournament. Lexi also served as team captain her senior year. She is excited to return for her second year of coaching, eager to continue fostering growth, teamwork, and dedication within the program.

ASSISTANT COACH SYDNEY WALTERS

Coach Sydney is currently attending MATC studying Radiography. She started playing lacrosse in 7th grade and played through her freshmen year in college. This is Coach Sydney's second year coaching and she is very excited to keep seeing the team grow!
